Ellen has been living alone in her picturesque, if damp, cottage since her husband abandoned her for the pleasures of life in France with his secretary. The secretary this time married him for money but he did not recognize at all.

Her divorce lawyer who is single and enticingly wealthy has come to her life and an artist who paints murals in country houses also.

 

이혼한 중년 여자의 생활을 여러가지로 다양하게 표현해 주고 있다. 전 남편과의 문제, 혼자 살고 있으므로 해서 일어나는 인간관계들, 경제문제, 정서적인 불안정감, 재결혼 등의 어려움을 이겨나가는 모습이 참 좋았다.

자식은 모두(두 명) 직업과 진학 때문에 집을 떠난 상태였다. 그래서 자식들의 입장에서의 힘겨움은 표현되지 않았다. 착하고 평범한 전형적인 가정 주부에서 이혼녀로 현실에 앞장 서서 살아가는 이야기가 실감있었다.
